Oh YES! I would love to see a list of the hybrids from Jones & Scully! I used to have the catalogs from them but I gave them away. Dummy me. Impossible to find one these days and they were the most informative catalogs with the best photos! I think they were better than any book. Certainly, no one had better photos.

Jcaesar, yes it is a shame that Florida lost some really amazing orchid growers. I think I want to get a Mildred Rives also. I actually saw one on Ebay and since you saw one in K-mart there must a bunch around. I think that one is from the 1930's. I am hoping to pick up some of the oldies at the Central Florida Orchid show in a few weeks.

From what I understand, the catalogs have become quite collectable. It would be great if those who have access to the J & S (as well as Stewarts) catalogs would post them on the Orchid Board. Good luck at the show!

I am looking at some older orchid library books right now to see what older crosses they have listed. I notice that a lot of the older crosses on Ebay go for some $$ so I think a lot of people are interested in the older crosses. It is funny to think about orchids as being "antique."

Does anyone have a vendor that they have found for the older crosses? I notice some vendors sell divisions of some of their breeding/stud divisions of their best plants but they are so pricey. I am wondering if the only way to put together a nice collection of the oldies is to pay the bucks?

That is probably it, Im in the process of doing it myself-
Unless your friends with people in your OS who have some of these older babies this is the way to go. What I also recommend is make sure your buying from reputable growers who are clean with their handling & dividing- the last thing I think anyone wants is an older virused plant. But recognize that many indeed are.

I guess I better ask if/what the grower does regarding virus screening. Owens orchids seems to have a lot of really nice plants but they are pretty expensive.
