Cattleya aclandiae - Orchid Board

Im always surprised by how quickly this plant puts out growth. I would guess that from nubbin to mature bulb is 4 or 5 weeks and then another week for the flowers to start to open. Lightning quick growth for a Catt or any 'chid for that matter! This is a second bloom for this plant and instead of the one flower it gave me last year, I got three on this growth!!

I was not able to capture the true color of the pink. In real life it is a very dark, very vivid pink. I havnt gotten the full feel for my camera yet, so the pink is a bit washed out. Oh well, next growth!! Anywho, enjoy!!

These spotted Catts with the contrasting colors, such as this one, are what do it for me. Yes, the growth is lightning quick, another added (tempting) feature.

I have some summer blooming Phals that grow from spike to flowering in about the same time but have never seen this with Catts. This on is definitely going on my Catt 'future' list.

That's fantastic, Steve. I love this species, even if the sprawling growth habit makes it (like C. walkeriana) a bit of a challenge for me. Do the flowers have any scent?

I have this species also, and yours is gorgeous!! Yours looks quite a bit older than mine however; I have roughly 4-5 small pbulbs and only one thriving root

I had some trouble with it in the beginning because it was mounted on cork with sphag, and that type of culture just never works for me and the roots rotted...the top of the sphag was crispy always and I guess it stayed wet inside, Idk. Anyways, yours is beautiful and I hope mine grows up to be as nice as yours! Can anyone recommend a vendor for this species in a BS besides Andy's orchids? That is where I purchased mine and it was just so tiny...

Nevermind - I see you purchased yours from H&R, I will order one from them! Do you recommend them as a vendor? I think I will PM you to continue this convo...

These guys do tend to grow wherever they please, but the bulbs are much closer together than my walkerianas (which I will post pics of in the next few day!!

). Ofcourse, if you mount it, then there is no where for the plant to sprawl to other than the mount! There is also a surprisingly pleasant smell from the aclandiae during mid day.
