A Real Cutie
This is Eplc. Butterfly Kisses 'Mendenhall' AM/AOS (Lc. Trick or Treat x Epi. conopseum (magnoliae). The plant is a real miniature reaching only five inches high and the flowers are 1 3/4". It fills a four inch pot with about a dozen pseudobulbs and it produced four spikes in the fall. Each spike is capable of producing up to eight flowers. Everything blasted except one bud which it was kind enough to hold on so I could at least have one flower. Epi. conopseum is a miniature that is native to Florida and is the most northern epiphyte growing all the way to the Carolinas and it produces tiny green flowers during the warmer months, thus the common name, 'green fly' orchid. It grows on Live Oak trees in the company of Resurrection Fern. The flower has such a uniqueness that I am not surprised at the AM. I like this little guy so well that I just had to share the picture even though it is just a single flower.
