Default My first ever blooming catts! Pot. Love Passion 'Orange Bird' & Epc. Plicaboa

I'm so excited!!! hehe...

I've been trying a long time to get some catts to bloom for me and my patience finally paid off!

First three photos:

Epc. Plicaboa 'Dancing Queen'
I bought this as a baggie orchid at Lowe's almost three years ago, almost killed it twice, then finally got it right! Flowers are about 3'' and as you can see have multiple buds per spike. The smell is delicious...the only way I can describe it is like a sweet marshmallow smell!

Second three photos:

Pot. Love Passion 'Orange Bird'
Got this from a vendor at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens show last year. This is the first rebloom with four flowers on this spike and 3 more spikes just emerging from their sheaths!!! No fragrance to speak of, but how could you not love such a pure orange orchid??? BTW, the pics that are darker orange is the true color...most of the pics I took showed up as a much paler orange than what they actually are.

Congratulations! They are both just gorgeous! It's so exciting to bloom an orchid for the first time. I love the colors on both of them. And sweet marshmellow? Yummy!

Those are spectacular Ethan! You and I have similar tastes in orchids I think. I like the Catts with the long trumpet shaped lip and not too much floof. The color on both is amazing.

I'm still struggling getting some of my Catts to bloom. Could be some of my non-bloomers are still too young.

Very nice, Ethan. And from the little we can see of your growing area, that looks pretty neat, also. Maybe when you have some time you could take us for tour of the premisses?

Congrats. Cats are really "the orchid of all orchids".
I like the first one as the flowers a well spaced out. Not unusual to take 2-3 years for some of the big box stores orchids to bloom. They are usually only seedlings. Nice growing, thanks for the show.

Thanks for all the comments, guys -

These have got to be two of my favorite catt. hybrids. I love all the ones with color splashes, but there's something so pure about a solid colored catt flower...

Terri -
Hang in there....I have almost twenty catts. most of which I've aquired in the last year and a half. These are the only two that have rebloomed for me yet. As Don mentioned - I think part of it is the change in growing conditions from the nursery to your home...maybe it takes a long time to adjust before they are ready to flower again?

Howard -

Thanks! My growing area isn't as gorgeous and bursting with blooms like yours, but here's a link to a mini tour I posted a few weeks ago. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...tml#post191734

Thanks, Ethan. After looking at the pics, I recall seeing the original posting and remarking to myself how beautiful your growing area is. Thanks, again.
