Default Rsc. Maitland ‘Miles’

It is one of the parent of Rsc. Chia Lin.
The flower is very fragrant and with good texture.

I did not know that one of the Chia Lin parents was a yellow! Interestinig!

Chia Lin must have gotten it's gorgeous full lip from this plant. They look an awful lot alike, don't you think?

It's a beauty! And thanks for the info.

Debs, Chia Lin is such a well known hybrid that some breeders nowadays still adopt this one to create similar crosses.

I'd have to say a well grown Chia Lin is a sight to behold! I can see that it would be used as a parent many, many times.

Do you know who the other parent is, Pheli?

Debs,
The other parent is Rsc. Oconee, another good red cattleya.

Hi,
Rsc. Sanyung Ruby is the hybrid between Rsc. Waianae Coast and Rsc. Chia Lin.
The 'Shin-Mei’ means 'new beauty' in Chinese and this clone has been pupular here in Taiwan. The Shin-Mei is different from chia Lin in colors and the throat part. The veining and yellow parts of the throat of both two crosses are distinguishable.
Here is a link to the image of SanYung Ruby 'Shin Mei and you can easily find the difference.

Ah.... thanks a bunch Pheli, I still think Chia Lin is prettier...Sanyung Ruby killed the dark red coloration....
What about fragrance wise? The same breeding line so I guess it will keep the fragrance strong from parents and grandparents?
It's funny to see a yellow flowered plant give rise to dark red offspring.... what did Rsc. Maitland pass for their offspring? In other word, what's the purpose of the cross Rsc. Maitland x Rsc. Oconee? people didn't really expect a red color at first, right?!
