Default Epicattleya Frances Dyer

This is an old Epicattleya hybrid (the RHS now lists it as Guarechea instead of Epicattleya, but they are so mixed up that I am sticking with the old names). The hybrid was registered in 1955 and a number of clones are still around. The flowers are non-resupinate (they don't turn over but hold their lip uppermost) like the parent, Encyclia fragrans. They are also fragrant. It was one of my first orchids, given me by the former caretaker of the Astor Estate in Tarrytown, New York.

That is beautiful, you must be very good at growing them as it looks so happy and what a wonderful display of flowers, and its fragrant too sounds wonderful, thank you for sharing it with us.

Well done, Ron. I'm with you on the name game some are playing. The old ones are staying until the dust settles, and sanity is somewhat restored.

I ordered another clone of this (to arrive when the weather is warmer) from Odom's Orchids, the only place I could find it. I want to see if it is substantially different from the one I have.

I love the shape of the flowers. What does it smell like? Frenchy's Petite was sweet too... I shouldn't look in albums, my list keeps getting longer and longer...

It's gorgeous, Ron! Well done!

I am not changing the tags on my chids unless I'm putting them in a show or having them judged. I can't keep up with the changes!
