I finally spoke with the grower that I purchased this plant from, and have been assured that it is all L. tenebrosa. The cross was made by a man who is a reputable grower himself, and some of the plants do display quality traits such as what is show in Rolando's photos here.
Most cattleya alliance species, while they do tend to look very similar to one another within their own group, do sometimes have quite a variance in the way their genes are expressed, and L. tenebrosa is no different with respect to this phenomena.
