Default Big Momma Catt. Update

I've been posting progressive bloom photos of my Noid Catt. who I affectionately refer to as "Big Momma". Fifteen of her 27 buds have now opened and her first 2 blooms have reached their full color intensity.

Oh and another thing to note...I always thought she was unscented, but she proved me wrong today.

Hey Junebug...that is a gorgeous catt! Well done!

I think Big Mama might be a Blc. George King 'Serendipity'. I have one of those guys...smells like sweet spice...and looks very similar to this one.

David, I'm so thrilled that you suggested the Blc. George King "Serendipity". This is my suspicion too, for a few reasons.

I lost her tag many years ago, but when she was gifted to me in was in remembrance of my father who had recently passed away. His name was George and this was mentioned at that time I received her. For the last 2 years I've been reading up and checking out photos of the Blc. George King "Serendipity". Many photos depicted paler pink petals, but there was one photo in particular that looked exactly like mine. The descriptions usually specified the Serendipity as having pinkish salmon colored blooms and a perfume. Until today the perfume part didn't fit, but now it does.

There is a local grower who I recently visited. He's been in business for 40 years and it's also my suspicion that this orchid was purchased from him. During my visit I mentioned my large Cattleya and shared my thoughts of "Big Momma" being a George King cross. At that point his eyes lit up and he appeared to be excited about what I might have. Now that she is blooming I'm planning on taking her to this grower to see if he can give a more positive ID. She's pretty hefty and her leaf span is about 36" so this will be a tricky endeavor.

Thank you Sandy. When this plant is blooming she almost takes my breath away, so I thought, "Why not share the experience."
