Default C. Viola Sanjume 'Orange Blossom'

This is the second oldest orchid I have, and it has a rather mixed history. I bought it about twenty five years ago, and had a very hard time getting it to bloom. I gave a piece of it to a friend, who couldn't bloom it either. I gave my mother a part of it, and she couldn't bloom it either. In the meantime, mine committed suicide. When my mother died about twelve years ago, I brought hers home from Utah. It has grown well, bloomed of and on, but not well. This is the best it has ever done, six blooms on two growths. I don't know for sure why, but I'll take it.

That's beautiful, Kim, and I'm sure it was worth the wait. Please for the totally ignorant, what does the C. stand for at the beginning of its name?
( I promise to crawl under a stone for being thick)

Thanks
Heather

Hi,

That is gorgeous, and well worth the efforts. Its a good thing you did not put all your eggs in one basket, if you take my meaning.

Hedge, the C stands for Cattleya. It is convention to write the first initial of the genus name when you pressume your readers know what genus you are dealing with. In this case, since we are in the Cattleya forum, C would stand for Cattleya. No need to crawl under a rock.

What a spectacular orange catt!!! I LOVE orange. I'm sorry to hear its been not the best bloomer...I guess they just do that sometimes. 6 blooms is pretty good though, I gotta tell ya!!! 25 years is a long time, that's impressive!!

Well done, Kim!

I really LOVE the orange chids...is the texture of this one as waxy as it seems to be in the photo?
It's just one more reason for me to really really like this one!

Thanks everyone! Sue, the buds start out pretty waxy, but once they open, they 'calm down' a bit.
