Default Growing cattleyas in aliflor?

I'm thinking about testing a couple of cattleyas buy planting them in straight aliflor (clay aggregate). Does anyone else grow their catts in this? I figure it should provide lots of air around the roots, stay moist long enough during the hot summer months to give them a good drink of water, and allow the plants to be grown for longer periods of time in the same pots since I (and they) won't have to contend with decomposing bark. Anyone care to offer some thoughts on this idea? Thanks!

Steve
