I have no clue about its evolutionary past, but I was thinking maybe its the link between uni and bifoliates. Haha.

Hard to say, Steve. The flowers seem to be genetically stable and well defined, all the variations falling within the expected range for a good species. The second occasional leaf may indicate that the species is vegetatively in a transitional phase, from two to one leaf. But (as a hypothesis) it is possible that in ancient ages it has started as a natural hybrid

Is it available for export to Canada? Or do you know of a commercial supplier in Canada? My final Question, how difficult is this to grow?
