I have no clue about its evolutionary past, but I was thinking maybe its the link between uni and bifoliates. Haha.

Hard to say, Steve. The flowers seem to be genetically stable and well defined, all the variations falling within the expected range for a good species. The second occasional leaf may indicate that the species is vegetatively in a transitional phase, from two to one leaf. But (as a hypothesis) it is possible that in ancient ages it has started as a natural hybrid

Very nice Mauro. For anyone in the states smitten by this species, it is commercially available from Miranda Orchids.

Is it available for export to Canada? Or do you know of a commercial supplier in Canada? My final Question, how difficult is this to grow?

Mauro,
I think its an adorable little plant, with a gorgeous, unique flower. Thanks for sharing this little beauty.

Mauro,
Thanks for this thread...photos and cultural background too.

It is wonderful to hear that you are involved with propogating this seriously endangered plant so that future generations of orchid lovers can continue to enjoy it's unique beauty. You have my admiration.
