Here's an example of what happens with C. bicolor (the plant in the photos). The first photo shows the buds forming on the top and the new roots flushing from the rhizome at the same time.
I should have it repotted at least two weeks ago, when the new roots were just breaking out the rhizome. Fortunately, I didn't break any of them!
