Default C. deckeri, first blooms for me.

This is the first time this plant is blooming for me and I am surprised. I bought this plant in August, in sheath, but the new growths were about 1/2 the size of the older PB's. Slowly the sheaths turned a crispy, dried up, shriveled brown. One was a double sheath and the second looked like a triple, but I could be wrong on that one. I snipped the tops of the now brown sheaths and 4 weeks later as I was getting ready to water, I saw the buds popping out. One had 12 buds, the other had 9. The pictures are of the 12, the 9 are just opening. The flowers are around 2 3/4 inches across each and the color is a bit better than in the photos

Very beaitiful. I have never seen the real flowers of this species but the blooms look really like those of C. skinnerii.

It is one of the prettiest species but oddly rarely grown. It also goes under the name C. patinii.

Hope that helps, Eric

I understand that they are now called Guarianthe patinii or deckeri. I don't even know how to say that! I've always had good luck reblooming the various skinneri and related plants so I have a special like for them and have several types including an FCC skinneri, a skinneri alba, 'Snow' and a very small skinneri coerulea division which is probably 3+ years from bloom. I may eventually try to get one of every color variation of both skinneri and deckeri, but I have to start getting very selective because winter space is becoming an issue.------but-----I'll bet that if I find one at a good price, I won't be able to resist.

Those are some very pretty blooms !!! Congratulations !!!! If I'm not mistaken I heard at one of the clubs that I go to (Coalition for Orchid Species) that the deckeri is going back to skinneri autumnalis; however don't take my work for it.
