My only Christmas blooming red orchid. Small flower tho not a mini. Tall plant with flowers in a cluster of 5-6. Bright red with slightly copper throat. Some fragrance.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OB MEMBERS and STAFF.

Don, it's a beaut! Even though not something to fit my shelf, it's a fantastic color and great form. Nice job.

Don your orchid is very pretty! I have a 4 in. tall Glowing Embers. Was hoping you could give me some pointers. Bought it in Oct. Its doing ok, I can see new roots. What do you use for the medium? Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam - I live in So. Ga. and I don't know where you live so your requirements and availability may be somewhat different. But with great success (you can look at my gallery) I use tree fern w/redwood chips for all my Cats., cat crosses, and oncs. And that is what I am using for this particular orchid. I use bark with chc, perlite, charcoal for Dendrobiums and Aliflor, little perlite and charcoal for my phals. Must also say I have grown all in just a bark mix, perlite, charcoal with success also. I have some Vandas just hanging on a wire and others in baskets with charcoal chunks only. Hope this helps you some. Everyone you talk with may have a different preference on mixes but experiment and see what works best for you. Good luck. - Don
