Brassavola martiana - Orchid Board

This comes from the Amazon forests. The flowers are not much large, but the frilled lip is very interesting!

Pretty! It is not common to see this species in Taiwan.

Thats a great Brassavola, one that I should have in my collection! I really like the saw tooth lip.

A beauty . . . and great photos, as usual!

As for Brassavola,I only have the "usual suspects": nodosa, cuculatta and Fred Sander, but the Brassavolas are some of my favorites. they are hardy, floriferous, and a great scent.

Look similiar to the B. Nadosa except for the elongated frilly lip. Yes, interesting and would be a good addition to any collection.

If you've seen B. David Sander (THAT's what mine is . . . I don't know where the "FRED Sander" came from) I think the martiana looks a little more like that one. The nodosa has a broader lip, but the David Sander has an elongated (pointed even) frilly lip. I don't know what the parentage is (David Sander), but I would bet on some Ryncholaelia digbyana in it somewhere.

Someone on the Board probably knows.
