Default Laelia alaorii

Another first bloom for me. I've had this for a year, mounted on cork. Very easy grower, not fussy at all about temps or humidity! If past growths are any indication, it seems to bloom on every new growth.

Incidentally, I remember following an earlier thread from someone else growing this one who reported that the flower didn't open all the way. I can second that observation: it's a very pretty little bloom, about an inch across, but it seems to want to stay partially closed.

My Laelia alaorii, which does not have the purple markings in the lip also stays cup-shaped like this one.

The cupped bloom is typical of the species. I am keeping my fingers crossed the one I imported from Guatelama had parents that don't display this trait. If it also is cupped, I will enjoy it anyway.

Totaly charming, Stephen. I do believe this is normal for this species.

Yes, the bell-shapped flowers is a distinctive characteristic of this species. Some clones open a little more, but never completely. The primary hybrids seem to loose this trait and open normally! Beautiful flower by the way!

The more I see this flower, the more I like it! The next time I see one in my neck of the woods I will pick it up. Hopefully I can get one like yours. Its got kind of a pupurata 'anelata' theme going on there too! Very cool.

This one is actually an eBay acquisition. I haven't seen them advertised on many online growers' Web pages. I've had great luck with it in the year I've been growing it.

A cute little bugger for sure. I love the halo of lavender in the throat area. Nice growing.
