Default repotting cattleya dowiana

Greetings every one,

I have recently purchased a cattleya dowiniana aurea.
This morning I noticed new root growth on the largest
pseudobulb. It is in a plastic pot and I would like to
repot into a basket. Is this a good time or should I
wait till early spring.

First of all, welcome to the board (don't want to forget that!)

I would repot right now. The new roots mostly emerge from the new growths and you want those to settle into the new mix.

If you are sure that you have new root growth, go for it! All 3 of my dowianas (2 large seedlings and 1 NBS) are in baskets and they seem to really like it.
