I was putting the 'chids back out where they belong since the cold snap down here is done for now and found this little guy hiding amongst the taller 'chids...

anglo, it's Encyclia cochleata and that body of water is actually the top of my lanai table

Pat, I have 3 different versions of this plant and they all have major growth happening...I didn't see this one coming, though!

I know it's the "wrong" time for it to be in bloom...what would cause that to happen?

Most likely the plant got a little set back from something earlier in the year, perhaps you switched it to s/h while that growth was maturing, or switched conditions? No complaints though... Is it a single flower on the spike with no buds?
