I would like to say thanks to you all for your encouraging words:it seems they worked well!!!
Here's my story's follow up: Cattleya intermedia put out another growth with a healty sheath and now I can see buds in it.
But the one which withered it's sheath last december now shows buds as well!!!!!!!
So never say never...
