Jasen,
You have a really cool looking flower! However, I dont think that you have a species. OrchidWiz has no recollection of this and every time I Google your plant, I come up with hibrida as the spanish word for 'hybrid.' I think you might have a NOID on your hands! My guess is that that you actually have a primary hybrid. Im gonna take a stab and say that it is C. shilleriana x intermedia? Maybe Lc. Elegans? Hopefully Mauro can jump in and let us know what he thinks!

Check Orchidwicz again. The plantis listed as a species Cattleya from the southeastern portion of Brazil. It has two AM awards one in 2006 and one in 2007. Named by Veitch in 1863. There is also a Cattleya Hybrida listed that is a hybrid made by crossing C. guttata x C loddigesi. They appear to have the same photo. It appears that it is a naturally occurring hybrid found in the wild ( See Carl L. Whitner's " Cattleyas and their Relatives". ) so it would appear it is a hybrid whether man made or by nature. No spelling with an Hi instead of Hy unless it is spelled differently in Spanish. That's it just checkedEnglish to Spanish dictionary. Hi is Spanish spelling.

Thanks Uechi, I don't have Orchidwiz, so thank you for using yours. I only figured it was a Brazilian species because the guy I bought it from sells mostly Brazilian species, lucky guess....but thanks for the info!

Hi, Jasen
Your plant is Cattleya Whitei, a primary hybrid between Cattleya schilleriana and Cattleya warneri. This hybrid also occurs in the wild, and in such case the correct spelling would be Cattleya whitei. But, it is very rare to find one in nature. Your's most likely is man made.
