To me, this is an awesome example of what a primary hybrid can be. The species involved here are Laelia purpurata and Cattleya aurantiaca. When I started growing orchids (long time ago

) and developed some interest in breeding, it was common to hear that Laelia would always dominate over Cattleyas in color... Well, as I always use to say, one cannot be assertive on any aspect involving orchids! There's always one exception, if not many! In this case, the flowers are large, flat and have the general aspect of a Laelia purpurata, except for the pointed lip, but the color is from C. aurantiaca.
