Cattleya intermedia in several of its variations yes, is a beginner orchid, you are right, but somes clones and sometimes a few varieties are a little difficult to grow. This lilacina (and also the other similar, known as suavissima or suave) use to be a little difficult to keep healthy roots, so the plants don't develop their full potential. In other words, it is a little more difficult to lead the plant to a very good condition because the root system most of times is not as extensive as it would be desirable to support a good plant.
As to the fragrance, well, to my nose it is not fragrant!

are the other type of intermedia more fragrant than the suavissima?...i should have ask for more advice before getting this plant. I like fragrant flowers.

I also noticed that the roots of the plant are slightly shorter than what i see in other catts. But I still like the fact that it is a more compact and shorter plant that other c.intermedia.

Sorry, but C. intermedia in general is not a fragrant species. Sometimes a few clones present a slight fragrance, but this is not common.

Thanks for the information. I have been wondering about this. Some general books writes that C. intermedia is strongly fragrant (ex. Frownie, La Croix) which has contradicted other books and forums posts.
