Default C. bowringiana

Here are a couple photos of my C. bowringiana. I originally put this guy on my wish list a few years back, and finally got this guy two years ago as a large seedling.

It is growing in lava rock only, and seems to have done very well with it. It has two more spikes getting ready to bloom...maybe in another two or three weeks. Enjoy!

Very beautiful, David.
I found that your plant is blooming and there are also new growths growing at the same time. But the new growths of my plant usually appear after blooming.

Dave, that is superb... and me a non-Cat lover (mostly). Maybe one in my future as well. Nice photos, as well.

Pheli,

This is true of both this plant and my C. bowringiana var. coerulea (just now starting to spike). In fact there are brand new growths just starting on both plants. It is curious, but I'm not complaining...the new growths produced during this time of year seem to bloom as soon as they are fully developed, thus lengthening the blooming season.

I'm glad that everyone is enjoying this guy...thanks for your kind words.

Cookie Monster,

For all of my catts, starting in mid spring, I water about every 3 to 4 days through the fall, at which time I taper down to about once a week depending on how quickly the medium drys out.

During the warmer times of the year (mid spring to early/mid fall), I fertilize once a week. In the winter it is about once every two weeks. My standard fertilizer is Dyna-Gro liquid, 7-9-5 along with a little Super Thrive. About once every 6 weeks or so I use a combination of Epsom salts and potassium nitrate mixed at 1 tablespoon of each per gallon of water along with bloom booster and a touch of Super Thrive.
