B. nodosa - Orchid Board

This is my nodosa that I mentioned in another nodosa thread. It has always grown ok, but bloomed little. It went outside this year, in almost six hours of full sun, in temps of 90 and above. After some sunburn, and sulking, it really took off. There are about 20 new growths on it now. It goes in my south window for the winter, and hopefully will do as well on them as the three growths blomming now.

hmmm, Im gonna have to try that again. Mine just sit there and pout. Then I fried them and almost all the foliage jumped ship. Now they're back to pouting. For me they have been the toughest thing to grow!

Very cool looking flower. Ive never seen one with such 'twist' in the petals. Isnt it great to find some key to growing a troublesome orchid? Good work!

Have had mine about a year now and just recently I have seen a few new growths and every day when I water her I look, nope just hangs around. But I do see you grow in a pot, mine is mounted and within 12 inch of a artifical light

Need to make a change. Yours is so beautiful, congrats on finding your niche...

Mine is up high (8-9 feet) in my greenhouse. Even with shade cloth on during the summer, It gets 8 hours and more a day of BRIGHT (over 6-7,000 fc, I'm sure) sunlight. It's been there for a few years now. There is also a cucullata next to it, and that behaves the same.

The foliage is pale and sometimes even gets a bit reddish, almost sunburned, but the way they grow and bloom tells me they are loving it.

B. nodsa does well with some slight BBQ'ing

Mine went outside about a week ago, so hopefully it will look like that soon. It was growing where it was, but I don't think it was enough light to bloom. So it's been outside with the Vandas, thinkin' about what it's done...which isn't much!

Kim what a specimen! It's beautiful! Super picture too. Definitely calendar material.

My nodosa is being bratty this year. It bloomed for me last year. This year two new growths matured both with sheaths. Then the sheaths dried up. I'm not sure if buds will develop now or not. I think I watered it a bit more often last year. I just haven't had the time this year. Has anybody had one bloom from a dried sheath?
