[QUOTE=Cattleya17Right Now im stuck Between The Best, pamela, And Chia Lin![/QUOTE]

If you are more impressed by size, try the Pamela Finney. If color and form are your thing then Williette Wong or Chia Lin Could be choices you MIGHT like. Everyone has their own favorites.

You will be fine. They say it probably because they can get pretty big since they are standard-size cattleya. Therefore, you cannot accomodate them under the light setting.
I have no experience growing under light but I don't think there's strong enough light to bloom the standard catt (I could be wrong). About winter, if you can put them in a light stand for additional light during the dark winter, that's definitely a plus, better than no light at all.
One thing though... I was wondering if any of those two blooms during winter. It would be funny if you don't have enough light to get them to bloom in winter. Maybe it's the shorter day length and a cooler temperature that flower winter-blooming orchid. I hope someone with experience will come in.

Yeah i went to a speciaty shop for lights and hydroponics in Nyack, NY, and he gave me some flourescent tubes to grow with over the winter and i actualy bloomes a standard cat that was a little smaller than the Drumbeat and Chia lin, it was campobello mendenhall. i brought it inside for the winter just a little bit after the the new growth opend the leaf and exposed the sheath. and that was october of last year. it made it al the way to blooming with just one 40 watt tube. i plant to get a about 4 or 5 more for this winter. The light guy said that this would do you good and i guess he was right .The place where im ordering the plants from said that plus the pot that the whole thing would stand about 20 inches or less. but i am working up a new desk for the both of them so i think thy will be okay just for the winter. I put back together a light garden each winter and last year was a complete sucess. they are all still alive!
