I have a BLC that I purchased in December. Since then it has produced two new growths, one unifoliate and the other bifoliate. I have a 3rd growth started and don't know which way it will go. Now that I've taken a closer look at the original plant, it has both single and double .....is this normal? This is very confusing to me.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Helen
I don't know how normal it is but I have several Blc's that do that. There's no harm in it but I don't know what the cause is. I even have a few that have 3 leaves.
It is my understanding when you have a complex hybrid Cattleya alliance plant, some of the species in its background may be unifoliate, and some may be bifoliate. The offspring will show characteristics of both. Not a problem, I am sure, as I've had plants with both leaf types which grew well.

Me too! Onesies, twosies and threesies all on the same plant. Doesn't seem to keep it from blooming though!
