I hope Don sees this one - I helped him decipher the tag of a Cattleya guatemalensis he has acquired recently

Sue, to challenge your 'boring' comparison which I understand is relative to Mauro 'Red', I still find C. guatemalensis quite beautiful
( I think you are biased because it does resemble Cattleya ( Cattlianthe) Chocolate Drop )

It's pretty, of course...but put one of the standards next to Mauros's "Red" and there's no comparison

Chocolate Drop...did somebody say Chocolate Drop?

I totally agree with Sue cattleya guatemalensis is a nice plant, but most of the clones you normally find are rather boring if compared to the red varieties (like Mauro's) or even to the pure canary yellow one (I saw one plant at a exhibition and wow...) Apparently, and according to the owner of the yellow one at the exhibition, there is also a white form, which resembles more a white C. aurantica (I have not seen it yet, but must be gorgeous!)

Ramón, I have very occasionally seen the white guatemalensis in shows here and I agree, it reminds a white C. aurantiaca, but is a beauty anyway! Never saw the yellow!

Mauro, the yellow clon I saw was amazing, reminded me a lot of C. skinerii, but canary yellow... I have seen it only once...

I almost lost this plant three years ago when I was replacing the plastic cover of the grh. I hadn't noticed, but the plant had been left in a corner, unprotected and exposed a whole day to the tropical summer sun... Needless to say that when I saw, it was almost completely cooked!! It took me three years to get it back to a healthier condition and now I'm really glad I can see these flowers again!!!
Will you pull pollen from that, for me? I have a nice red very aurantiaca-like guatemalensis, so i would like to see about trying to promote that red colour strain.
