Default to repot or not to repot.....

I just received my plant via mail order and it has a few buds (is that what they're called?) that are about to bloom. Is it still okay to repot?

I recommend that you let the buds bloom and enjoy the flowers before repotting. If you repot now there is a good chance that the buds will abort.

Whew - I'm so glad I can wait to repot!! I was afraid of losing the flowers too. I will post pics when they bloom.

Why would you want to re-pot if it's ready to bloom? Don't, just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Well, I've always heard it's best to repot your new plants when you get them, but I'm a beginner and didn't want to risk the flowers. My mom repots with flowers or no flowers, but then again, she has 10 green thumbs .....I'm looking to turn just one of my thumbs from black to green too. Wish me luck!!

Alright...I'll be the voice of dissent

I repot every orchid I get immediately, doesn't matter whether they're in spike, bud or bloom. I have no idea what conditions any particular grower has or when the plant was last repotted...or what could be lurking underneath

The general consensus is to not repot while they're in bloom but I've saved more plants than I can count by doing what I do right away.

Personal decisions, my friends

I agree. But my main question is why the same post in two different forums?
