This one totally surprised me this evening. I was bending down to check my humidity gauge, which happened to be near this, and I said to myself, "hey, there's some stuff on that leaf," and then I realized I had two huge buds that are already splitting, that I didn't even know about! I didn't think this plant would bloom until next summer at the earliest, but I guess I was pleasantly wrong.

And for the record, this is the first totally out of bloom orchid that I've made bloom. I've had a few in spike plants subsequently bloom, and I've got one plant with a new spike, but this one is going to beat it to blooming I think.

So...progress photos to follow. I'm excited!

That looks nice already!! Congrats! I'm just starting to experiment with the feeling of making a plant bloom all on your own!

the kinda ironic thing is that the growth that's about to be blooming is the older one, so I wasn't paying much attention to it--I have been focusing on the new one. but like I said, I haven't really been checking for spikes at all because I thought it wouldn't bloom till next summer. sometimes it's good to be wrong.

it looked about the same when I left for work this morning, but that makes sense, because it was still pitch dark at the time.

so tonight will be exciting when I come home from work!
