Kiki, was this in bud when you got it? I bought the same plant from Hausermann's late last winter, and although it made a sheath on each of the three new leads and is a monster of a plant, those sheaths have just sat there for the past six month. I'm wondering how long I'll have to wait before the stubborn thing decides to push some buds up within the sheaths. Nice to see what I have to look forward to, however, and also glad to hear that it's fragrant. Congratulations on your beautiful blooms.

No, Steve, it wasn't in bud, but had a sheathe with visible buds inside it starting to surface. You're going to have to threaten the plant, I think. Go ahead, you can do it!

Kiki, my plant is apparently going on its own timetable. All three of the empty sheaths I was lamenting about last month now have buds pushing up inside of them and are growing larger/taller each day. Yippy!!! I guess I just needed to have a bit of patience--and yes, while I didn't actually threaten the plant, per your suggestion, I did growl at it a few times. Don't know how long it takes for such large flowers to develop from the time when you can identify the small buds, but I'm quite excited.
