Help! Please? I have killed all of my roots on both of cattleyas. I'm not even sure how, but they are all dried up (shriveled). How can I make my plants regrow their roots?
Can you give us a little more info? Any pics? Did they go dry? No water? Where they inside or outside, shade or light? I hope someone here can help you save it but all dead roots, brown and shriveled. At least your thread got bumped up. Good luck.
they were outside with quite a bit of sun, not direct sun though. The leaves are still green, actually just about the right color of green, from what I have read. I don't think I overwatered, maybe underwatered. Also when I got them the roots did not look plump, so I think they have gone downhill from there. I do not have picture capability on here, sorry.
Hi Darlene! How long have you had these? Did you receive them bareroot and then pot them or did you recently repot them? I have found that when I receive new Catts, some roots seem to die off when the plant is adapting to its new living conditions (not always the case but most of the time), and then usually new roots from the new growths replace them....but it takes some time and patience!
Hi , I would shade the Catts. be careful about watering no roots can't drink , mist them instead to keep the humidity up too prevent them from dehydrating .
Catts will start new growth from a dormant eye from the base of the last growth sometimes from others, the new growth will grow new roots not the ones there now that lost their roots . The main thing is to not let them dehydrate and be patient .. Good Luck with them . Gin
I have read about placing the orchids in a plastic bag with either moss or a little potting mix that is wet (not soaked) and placing them in a dark place for awile. Has anyone tried this. Also I have had these plants for since April and they came packed in wood chips.
