Laelia undulata (former Schomburgkia)
Impossible to capture the entire plant with the long roots and very long inflorescences ( the set is easily longer than 7 feet!). The plant produces a ball of flowers atop the long inflorescence that shifts the leading pseudo bulb to the side under its weight!
These wavy flowers (S. crispa, undulata ect) are still refferred to as Schomburgia, but they were transferred to Laelia more than 60 years ago (1941).

Well thanks a lot, Mauro! Another one I NEED!
Actually, Exotic Orchids of Maui has a hybrid using this with another Lc hybrid (Coastal Splendor) that I'm thinking of ordering

Way cool plant and flowers, Mauro. How big is the plant itself (not including the inflorescence)? I've heard that Schomburgias eventually turn into monster-sized plants. Even so, every time I see a picture of one in flower, I end up spending too much time on the Internet going through the various online catalogs and debating whether or not to get one. Do the flowers on your plant have any scent?

FYI Sue,
Tropical Orchid Farm actually has undulata on their list, if you prefer the species vs. the hybrid. Of course, the last time I recommended an orchid from Maui to you, we got the great Peristeria elata scandal!
Mauro,
This is a great looking plant and flower. Shombos look so cool when their roots are allowed to ramble. Thanks for the !

Hi Steve
LOL...I still trust your advice
I'm writing up an order for EOoM, they have some neat stuff listed for very little $$$ so I think I'll just get the hybrid for now.

Steve, my plant is 50cm tall (1.6 feet), but can be bigger than this. No detectable scent.

Splendid specimen
Thanks Mauro for introducing us to this one
