Said to be synonymous to Laelia longipes (Mauro - What do you have to say about this? ),
here is some more info on it's culture - Orchids of Brazil. Brazilian orchids

Sue - I found it at SBOE - Laelia lucasiana at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate

You might want to contact Miranda Orchids - it's not advertised on their website but you never know what they may have back in the greenhouse

Laura contacted them asking for their import list. When she gets it, the info will be posted on OB.
The ad says "Giant Import Sale" with over 10,000 plants from $5.00 and up!

We now return you to the previous discussion...

Love those Laelias!!!

[QUOTE=Dorothy;131471]Said to be synonymous to Laelia longipes (Mauro - What do you have to say about this? )......
QUOTE]

There has been some confused opinions on these two Dorothy, but officially Laelia lucasiana is not accepted.
L. lucasiana can comfortably fit inside the range of variation of L. longipes without the need of placing it as a separate species.
The white variety with yellow lip (known as L. lucasiana var. fournieri), can place a problem because it is very numerous in nature giving an indication that it could not be a simple variety. It has been described as Laelia fournieri but, again, not accepted.
So, Laelia longipes, as it is understood today, assembles the purple, the rose and the white, all with yellow lips.
Hope this can help a little !

Ok, I'm still a bit confused ...

So what is named lucasiana is actually longipes? or is officially accepted as longipes?
and L. lucasiana var. fournieri is actually Laelia fournieri but it's unofficial?
and when you say officially 'accepted' or 'not accepted', by whom is this referring to?

It seems despite it is 'not accepted', these unofficial names are still used?

Please, help me understand.

Sorry, Dorothy, my poor English did not help and I did a mess with L. lucasiana, L. lucasiana var. fournieri and L. fournieri.
I meant to say that Laelia lucasiana is not accepted as an independent species and in consequence Laelia lucasiana var. fournieri (the white) also is not.
I also wanted to say that Laelia longipes var. fournieri (that many still call L. lucasiana var. fournieri) could be a problem because it is so plentiful in nature that it could not simply be considered the alba variety of Laelia longipes (as it was, actually, described by Cogniaux).
Recognizing this fact, in 1993, F.L. Miranda split the plant with white flowers from L. longipes and, following the nomenclatural rules, named it Laelia fournieri.
As always, some accept, some don't, but his work is perfectly valid under the ICBN.
So, today there is Laelia longipes and Laelia fournieri only, but people often don't know of these changes and keep using the names they know and this is exactly the case with L. lucasiana and L. lucasiana var. fournieri. It is understandable, because it is not easy to keep updated with the numerous nomenclatural changes that have been taking place these times.
Well, there's not such a thing as 'official' in nomenclatural taxonomy, I agree. There is the ICBN and there are taxonomists and their egos . I used this word meaning the two modern nomenclatural databases I consider very useful, the Missouri Botanical Garden Tropicos Database and the RBG - Kew World Checklist Series.
Sorry again if my previous post was not clear enough, but I wrote it yesterday at almost 1 a.m. and I think I was already asleep...
