I think an ideal medium for this species is a lithophytic mix (more rocks than other things). This reduces chance of rotting and gives more aeration to the roots. I also rarely water this species, along with C. bicolor and its relatives... perhaps this helps reduce cultural problems?

Thanks for your ideas. The plant is not as tall as the typical guttata or leopoldii. It is 40cm tall now.
