Flowers on this plant have finally started to open--and just in time for the hungry Japanese Beetles which have started to make their annual appearance this week.

Although Euchile mariae looks very much like its cousin, Euchile citrina, it doesn't share any of citrina's scent (unfortunately). But the blooms are nice and waxy, and I like the green and white color combination. Now I just have to hide it among the cymbidiums and hope that the beetles won't be able to spot it.
Updated 7/18/08 All of the flowers have now opened. And I was wrong about there being no scent. Although it's faint, it is discernible: a very light rose scent.
