Great job of growing Steve. I have not had much success with digbyanas. Fortunately, I see a lot of the good traits of dibyana in Rsc. Ports of Paradise which is much easier to grow. I have a couple of Ports of Paradise in bloom now so the blooming season for the parent and offspring are the same.

Here is a picture of Rsc. Ports of Paradise 'Yun Pou' that is currently in bloom in my greenhouse. The lime green flower on the left is the youngest. The flower fades to greenish yellow after 3-4 days.

Hi all, thanks for your replies! I recently got my digbyana from Fenders Flora in Venice Florida - such nice people! Anyways, the plant is large; it has about 9 pulbs and looks to have bloomed about 4 times in the past. It wasn't exactly cheap, but for a species, I had actually expected to pay more for a plant of this size. When you say they are slow growing...can you quantify this somehow? I would be okay if it will bloom only 1x per year, but is it slower than that? I also have the Ports of Paradise digbyana hybrid; its never bloomed for me yet, it drives me crazy. Maybe in the summer? It has a growth maturing now that looks very promising...

Mine blooms 1x per year. When I say slow, I mean that the plant grows over the course of a whole year. Most orchids have a growth 'season' and complete the new growth to bloom cycle in a matter of months or weeks. My digbyana takes the whole year!

Does anyone here have a list of all the Rhyncolaelia digbyana cultivars? As long as this one has been used in the Hobby I would guess thee is more than the 15 or so I have seen in Print. Thanks.
