Any other Iwanagaras? Male
Default Any other Iwanagaras?

Everyone loves Iwanagara Apple Blossom (and I got one). I really like the form factor of the plant so I had to wonder if there are any other Iwanagara crosses that are nice?

There are different cultivars of Iwanagara Apple Blossom such as
'Golden' - Iwanagara Appleblossom 'Golden' at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate
'Golden Elf' - Iwanagara Apple Blossom'Golden Elf'.jpg
'Golden Beauty' - Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Golden Beauty' on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
'Kalei Pink' - Kaleialoha Orchid Farm, Inc. - Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Kalei Pink'
'Mendenhall' - Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Mendenhall': Carter and Holmes Orchids
'Fantastic' - Iwanagara Apple Blossom: Orchids By Hausermann
'Dee' HCC/AOS - Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Dee' HCC/AOS (79pts) photo - the_aos_cjc photos at pbase.com
'Yvonnne Nuccio' AM/AOS - Iwanagara Apple Blossom: Orchids By Hausermann
'Hihimanu' - Iwanagara Appleblossom 'Hihimanu' photo - Igor photos at pbase.com
'FANGtastic - Iwanagara Appleblossom 'FANGtastic' 4/18/05 pictures from flowers photos on webshots
'Lemon Pie' - I couldn't find a photo of it
'Sweet' - I couldn't find a photo of it

These are all Iwanagara Apple Blossoms but have specific characteristics that have been cultivated such as distinguished and distinct form or color that is a different (more subtle or intense) from the generic hybrid.

As far as the Iwangara -
I found
Iwanagara Haleahi ( = Bc. Maikai x Gba. Snow Ballet) -

Pot-Plant Orchid Grower - What's New: January 2002
Iwanagara Haleahi - Orchid Gallery Forum - GardenWeb

This one isn't a Iwanagara but it reminds me of it -
Lc. Bowri-Albida 'Pink Lady': Orchids By Hausermann

And there is always the parents of Iwan. Apple Blossom -
Dialaelia Snowflake - Dialaelia Snowflake
Blc.Orange Nugget - BLC Orange Nugget pictures from gardens photos on webshots

Oh yes! I like them, too. I have a Golden Elf and it is a great bloomer. However, it doesn't have scent like some of the other Apple Blossoms.

Thank you, Dorothy. Apparently the crossing that created Apple Blossom was about the first to combine the 3 or 4 genera resulting in Iwanagara. You are an expert on fragrance so I wonder if you know whether most of the IAB have good fragrance?

I am starting to think that it might be fun to have a little collection of different AB although it may be hard to find these for purchase.

I have one Iwan. Apple Blossom without a cultivar name and it is quite fragrant in bloom.
I never heard of an unpleasant scenting AB .. (no scent perhaps)
Being a hybrid, it can take on the fragrant trait or not ..
so when purchasing, it's best to find out from the seller whether it's aromatic.
in your Apple Blossom finds!

You might also use the search option to find past threads as there are quite a few members that have ABs and it may lead you into finding the ABs of your olfactory dreams
In fact, here is the search - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...earchid=192589

Craig, check these websites. I like the baskets too. They're really nice for chids that have pendulous spikes.

Craig - may I suggest posting your interest in baskets in the Orchid Lounge Forum (or perhaps Beginners) - There, you may received more exposure and a great number of responses on your specific questions
(I didn't want to move your post to it's own thread as you respond to Susie's entry here)
This thread is about Iwanagara Apple Blossom and I don't want your questions to get lost in this thread.

Thanks Craig! You can get the wood baskets at Home Depot, but they are usually cheaper at Walmart.

Dorothy, do you know which of the Apple Blossoms on your list above has a nice scent? Mine is pretty, but no smell. I would like to get a scented variety (possibly a pink one!). Thanks!
