Sophronitis wittigiana
A little bit more pinkish than the well known Sophronitis coccinea, this inland species is also shorter than the latter. It does well mounted and loves brigth light.

Great photo! Very interesting to see the bloom color!
I love the sophronitis too, Dorthy! I've got two: cernua and this one.
NEITHER have bloomed for me YET!

Gwen - I have a cernua and I have read they are slow growers.
Though I have had growth and new leaves, it has yet to bloom for me ( I purchased mine a few months ago)
Mauro - What are your growing conditions and do you find this species ( wittigiana ) to be a slow grower?
Do you also grow cernua and do you have any advise on that little baby, also?
Thanks

From my experience both are slow, Dorothy. They take an eternity to become relatively large plants (and by this I mean a few square centimeters!!) . I grow both mounted (cernua on tree fern stick and wittigiana on bare, hard wood piece). Aside the mount, both are grown more or less the same way: hot temps during summer, cool winter and very bright light throughout the year. I water every day during mid-spring through summer slowing down (two times a week) during the fall and the winter . I fertilize (NPKCalMag) once a week, always twenty minutes/half an hour before the watering to wash any salt residues away from the root tips and mounts.
If you need anything else, just let me know
