NoID cattleya has changed flower color Male
Default NoID cattleya has changed flower color. I WAS TOTALLY WRONG. SORRY!

I am attaching two pictures of the same NoID cattleya plant. The flowers do not even look like the same plant. The darker flowers were taken in the beginning of Feb. 2024. The lighter colors were taken Dec. 26 2024 (today).

Also, the darker color flowers seem more upright/erect and the lighter color flowers are not erect.

We are now in our cooler season in Thailand (much cooler) with lower humidity levels (which I love and is my favorite time of the year.) Our cool season will continue through the end of February. The hot season does not enter gradually. It simply turns hot instantaneously.

Now the temps range from 17C to 32C. The hot season temps range from 29C to 42C.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Edit: I am attaching 2 earlier pictures. If you look at the earlier photos that I took on Feb. 11 2024 and June 23 2024, it looks like the blooms were starting to lighten up. Also, I moved all my cattleyas to a different location which receives some direct bright morning sun (still at a narrow angle) under the sun screens. I don't remember the exact date that I moved them.

Thank you everyone for the nice replies.

Edit: I am sorry everyone. They are indeed different cattleyas. I mistagged them.

That's quite the significant change. Are you sure it's the same plant? Love the second lighter bloom colors.

Quite a few plants have flowers with color varying with temperature during bud development. Phalaenopsis and roses are known for this.

If you get some blooms with those lighter colors and are sturdy blooms, I sure would appreciate seeing them . I think they would be great enough to win some kind of award. I know I would vote for them.

Indeed, ES... but that is a bit more dramatic than usual, don't ya think? Wish I had a catt that could do that.

My guess is that they will open more fully and darken as they age and be a little closer to the photos from back in Feb.

A rose named Honeysuckle had deep pink flowers here in the Winter, and almost-white flowers in the Summer.
