The Cattleya man strikes again

Peter- that looks like plastic on your greenhouse? You can get away with just the plastic in winter without it costing you a fortune to heat?

Yes Keysguy, thats plastic on some parts of the greenhouse. In winter it helps a little bit to keep the warmth inside, in summer to keep it cool just a little longer and take away the nastiest sunrays. Indeed, in winter it is an expensive time, especially when it gets real cold in the Netherlands. Thanks god for mild winters, the last few years, but even then we have frost periods, so the heater is working hard at these days. It is an electric one.
In winter it is a challenge to have enough light. A real challenge, Days can be so dark here in winters.
For some Cattleyas it is too short light and too short days, for example C. trianae is a difficult one to have in nice quality flowering. Mostly even nothing, and the buds die in the sheaths. But i keep doing my best!
