Summer Cattleya Blooms
Here's a bit of a photo dump. Lots of beautiful things in bloom in the last two months!
From first to last:
C. tenebrosa aurea
C. Zip
E. Rioclarense (cordigera x randii)
C. Christian Starr 'Aloha'
Rlc. Copper Queen - taken right after the blooms opened and then a week later. Gotta love the Richard Mueller hybrids!
Enjoy,

I'm waiting for my Zip to bloom for the first time.
Mine tends to have very long outer sheats that prevent leaves from unfolding so that I have to cut them. It happened more than once.
Did it happened to yours too?

I haven't experienced that! I believe the tenebrosa used was tetraploid so I'm sure the genetics are different between our plants. This plant is resembles the look and size of a tenebrosa pretty closely.

I seem to remember someone said that Fred will offer more Zip on his 2025 Cattleya catalog. Hopefully you can grab a seedling (or several) then!

He told me he was planning to remake Zip, but in that case I wouldn't expect offerings for a few years. But I'll keep on the lookout from reputable vendors.

I wanted to find out more and did a search for Cattleya Zip and found someone selling them.
Is this a different hybrid or maybe a progeny??

This is actually the same cross that I posted! I think SVO might have sold some flasks of this cross to Odom's and probably others. The 'Darkness' cultivar is the tetraploid (4N) tenebrosa that I believe results in the larger, darker flowers. Dusty et al, you might try ordering one of these!
