at 42 inches and I think its starting to bud. I can feel the little knots on the spike stackin up.
this plant has been thru 2 hurricanes now. It is a survivor from Florida after Ian, now it has survived Beryl in Texas.

"Tall spike" is in its genes. L anceps on one side, the other side is a primary hybrid of two Laelias that used to be Schomburgkias - that have loooong spikes. Those buds will likely still take a month or 6 weeks or maybe more, but they're on their way. Not a plant for windowsill growing... Fortunately the footprint will stay fairly reasonable. I like the way you have secured the spike to the house!

Big purple and floppy no scent. Out of 6 buds have 4 flowers. Has 3 new growths so it has potential for many flowers next time. 46 inches topped out!

Kitty looks soooo happy. As for the plant, lovely. The Schomburgkia side, L Wellesley is L superbiens x L. lyonsii. I don't see the L. lyonsii at all (patterned). The L. superbiens lip is really dominant. Looks a lot like L. Nemesis (anceps x superbiens) This is going to be magnificent as the plant gets bigger. (But then, I have a great fondness for L. anceps and L. superbiens... both tough as nails along with being beautiful and stately)
