Fred Clarke talked to our Society. He pointed out most of the red color comes from Sophronitis coccinea and various rupicolous Laelias. These are hummingbird pollinated so they don't need any scent.

I've recently bought a couple with Virginia Dickey as a parent.
One crossed with Sc. Beauford 'Hartford's Elwood', the other is crossed with Slc. Circle of life 'Red Halo'
If mine turn out anything like yours I will be very happy.
Although the Elwood cross could be anything from yellow to red, so a bit of a surprise with that one.
