Another potential source is Troy Meyers. He specializes in flasking services for (mainly) species. He also periodically has seedlings available. I think he runs the business by himself, but he's usually pretty good at responding to emails. His email is listed on his website:
Flasking Home Page. It couldn't hurt to ask him if he has anything available.
Rafael Romero is another good source for Venzuelan cattleya species. I didn't see any mossiaes on his list the last time I looked (a couple of weeks ago), but he has carried this species in the past, and he has good quality plants. In fact, my favorite tipo C. mossiae came from him over a decade ago. You can email him through his website:
Plantio La Orquidea - Unusual orchid species and hybrids..
Finally, there's Ben Oliveros at Orchid Eros (
HOME | orchid-eros) in Hawaii. He always has a number of excellent cattleya species seedlings for sale. Again, I just checked his list and didn't see mossiae. But you could always send him an email. He's a friendly guy and (in my experience) easy to work with.
Cattleya mossiae is by far my favorite cattleya species. So I understand your frustration, and am equally bewildered why such an outstanding species (regardless of genus) is so difficult to find these days. I dread the idea of attempting to raise orchids from flask. But at this point, I'm tempted to just cross a few of my mossiaes this spring and send the pods to Troy for flasking.
