Yeah, I wanted a tipo L. purpurata. I got one (I think from a society auction, but was donated by SVO) labeled L. purpurata 'Tipo' x self. Turns out 'Tipo' was the cultivar name of an awarded plant. And it turned out to be a lovely alba. I asked Fred Clarke about that and he said that about 1/4 of them from the selfing came out alba... clearly line bred, with an alba in there somewhere, and statistically some of them were. Maybe 'Tipo' x self but not "tipo".

Ouch! I'm guessing you had to raise it from a seedling for a few years before you found that out.


Didn't see any mossiae on the current availability at AWZ

Well, it wasn't that small.. SVO did the serious growing, by the time they are sold they aren't that far from blooming (I think a couple of years). And it is a very pretty flower, just not tipo.
