Is Name a 3-way Cross, or Something Else? Female
Default Is Name a 3-way Cross, or Something Else?

I just purchased a 'bag baby' orchid from a home improvement store. Knowing that the identification tags can sometimes be a bit off, I'm curious what this tag really means. I don't think I have ever seen a tag that appears as a 3-way cross (see attachment).

Thanks in advance for any input! -Dana

Not sure what to make of that. None of those are the parents of the others.

If you put parenthesis around two of the plant names, that would indicate that they are the grandparents of one of the parents in the hybrid, if that makes any sense. Sometimes they do that when a parent does not have a registered hybrid name. That would be the simplest omission that would make sense.

You may be able to tell when it blooms but a lot of the mentioned clones are white so it may be really hard to know

First, Welcome!

Any orchid actually has just 2 parents. One of the parents on this one was likely an unnamed cross, which should be identified by parentheses around the cross that is one of the parents. So this one likely is either (Blc. Burdekin Wonder x Lc Spring Squall) x Blc Mt. Hood, or Blc Burdekin Wonder x (Lc Spring Squall x Blc Mt. Hood) . Can't tell from the tag, maybe when it blooms it might give a clue. Or not.

When I look up the 3 and find multiple pictures, some photos of the same hybrid cultivar show white flowers and some pink. So add to the confusion of which was crossed with what, there are likely mis-identifications of photos. All the given parents in whatever combination, are big, floofy classic Catts. So, you'll likely have a large, lovely, pink Catt.

what does the back say? that looks and sounds like a better gro bag baby and they are "sometimes" able to be tracked to a nursery and IDed.

There is no way of knowing whether it should read:
A x (B x C) or (A x B) x C.

I found one web site, showing that Burdekin Wonder 'Lakeland' x Lc. Spring Squall has been done, so that would point towards the 2nd option.

Both A & C are true albas (recessive). B is a semi-alba. I believe that alba x semi-alba should produce tipo (= pink/purple), so in that respect the label appears to be correct.

Thank you for your reply. Any floofy Catt is good! Thank goodness I'm not that picky about tagging.
