Default Cattleya nobilior var. amaliae 'Fabio Nahas'

Picked this one up from Keith Davis a few years ago. He told me a story about how a collector originally procured this from the namesake Brazilian orchid connoisseur, and nearly killed the plant. Keith was given a tiny bulb and miraculously it recovered; he thought it was a very fine example of this form.

After a few fruitless years on the windowsill, I think I finally got the hang of it (somewhat). It definitely produces 4-5 flowers at maturity, and can bloom much flatter. Maybe next year. And like me, it's a bit confused. Blooming in September in the northern hemisphere. Took a while to set in, but the fragrance is sublime.

Very cool score! The bloom timing is about what you'd expect in the Southern Hemisphere!

What a beauty you have in this one. Really wonderful--and I like how the lip differs so much from that of walkeriana (especially considering that they are close "cousins").

Really love this species mainly thanks to our very own Stephen VKL! I have young plants, almost all of the forms available except a striata/flammea....those need to make their way across the pond!!
