As the story goes, this jungle-collected cultivar was imported in 1935 and reportedly sold for the handsome sum of $35. Still a fine example of the "tipo" color form with good shape and excellent size (>8"). Hoping to get more flowers next time. Prefers high light and warm temps. New growths show striking purple spotting when given strong light. Orig div
I ordered a clone and it showed up in not the best shape. Mr Chadwick sent a replacement, and the replacement was an original division, along with a nice handwritten note. One of my most prized plants! Cool to read some of this history
among the fine articles from Chadwick Orchids on the unifoliate cattleyas is a gem about this cultivar, and how it was given to the late AA Chadwick when he was a young man for safekeeping. I think the article name was "sometimes it takes an oath" or similar. Great read.
