NOID Cat in Florida - never blooms
Default NOID Cat in Florida - never blooms

Newbie here so please be kind.

Gave my mom a NOID Cattleya. Living in Largo, FL in the crook of a live oak. Gets bright but indirect light. She fertilizes about once per month. Probably use MG for Orchids. Has never bloomed (been there 3 years). Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Large, mature Catts that don't bloom usually aren't getting enough sunlight.

that is a lot of cattleya with medium green color to not have had any blooms in 3 years. I have had a cattleya trianea that just didn't want to bloom even when pushed to near full sun. Is there another reason? maybe scale? root collapsed? virus plant that lost its will to thrive?
I would try to ease plant out of pot and take a close look at root system and check media inside pot to see if has turned to mush.

Tough to say! Occasionally, there are those plants that just won't bloom.

up the light - for my area the catts are happier with lighter green leaves - move it slowly, a few feet a day out of the center of the tree and then a few feet away from the trunk. halfway in the shade of the tree is where i would aim to get
